Day 28. Antarctic Peninsula. 13.2.25

"En route to the Peninsula we may attempt to follow the coastline of Elephant Island, a half-submerged mountain cloaked with an ice sheet at the outer limits of the South Shetland Islands.

It is almost impossible to describe the feeling of arriving in Antarctica. Spotting your first iceberg and taking a deep breath of some of the most fresh, crisp air on earth is an experience that will stay with you forever.

Once we arrive, the western side of the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands are ours to explore, and we have a host of choices available to us. Because we are so far south, we will experience approximately 18-24 hours of daylight and the days can be as busy as you wish."

Day 15 of our Antarctic Tour.

We made it to Antarctica. It's-2°.

Omgoodness what a fabulous, amazing,  crazy fantastic 2 hours on the waters of Antarctica in a zodiac. We saw 2 different whale species(Minke & humpback), 3 different seal species(crabeater, leopard & fur) and a few different birds including a Skua on an iceberg.  Our guide, Samira, was very excited as you don't often see Minke whales or fur seals in Lindblad Cove. We are on the northern tip of the western side of the Antarctic Peninsula.

I have taken so many photos that my fingers are stinging from the cold. We had a few flakes of snow falling.

Omgoodness,  a Minke whale was playing around all the Zodiacs.  He went under the water right near where I was.

In the afternoon we did an onshore landing from a zodiac at Mikkelsen Harbour on Trinity Island.
