"Santiago, Chile’s capital and largest city, sits in a valley surrounded by the snow-capped Andes and the Chilean Coast Range. Plaza de Armas, the grand heart of the city’s old colonial core, is home to 2 neoclassical landmarks: the 1808 Palacio de la Real Audiencia, housing the National History Museum, and the 18th-century Metropolitan Cathedral. La Chascona is the home-turned-museum of poet Pablo Neruda."
"The city was founded as Santiago del Nuevo Extremo (“Santiago of the New Frontier”) in 1541 by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia. The area was inhabited by the Picunche Indians, who were placed under the rule of the Spanish settlers."
Santiago is 520m above sea level and average temperatures for January are 12-30°C.
A few photos from the plane.
Waiting in the queue in Sydney.
Airport Beach.Instead of a blind our windows were tinted. At the push of a button you could make them go darker or lighter. Made for some interesting views.
Coming into Santiago.
After we settled in we went for a short walk, looking for a snack.

Dogs must be the favourite pet. Almost every one in the park had a dog or was smooching with their partner on the grass. The man above was selling doggie toys.
Tram cars going up the hill.
Had a welcome drink and dinner at the hotel.
Salmon with basil Pesto. Very delicious.
Another short walk in our street to check out the night life.
